Father James R. McGonegal Celebrates 40 Years

Father James R. McGonegal was ordained a priest on May 29, 1971 and celebrated his First Mass at Holy Family Church, Parma, Ohio on Pentecost Sunday. He did Ecumenical Studies at The University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands and served at Saint Brenden Parish, North Olmsted and Saint Raphael Parish, Bay Village before being sent for Liturgical Studies at The University of Notre Dame, Indiana. He served in the Diocesan Liturgy Office for ten years as Director of the Art and Architecture Commission and as the Bishop’s Delegate for the Catechumenate. Father was assigned to Saint Christopher Parish, Rocky River and the Vincentian Sisters of Charity, Bedford as chaplain. He taught Liturgy at Notre Dame College, South Euclid. Father came to Saint Ignatius of Antioch in 1980 and was named pastor in 1989. This year we celebrate his 40 years of priestly service and his dedication and leadership to our parish and school.

The following is an excerpt from The Saint Ignatius of Antioch Church Bulletin

On Sunday, June 12, 2011, on the Solemnity of Pentecost I celebrated 40 years since my ordination and first Mass. I was deeply humbled by the outpouring of support and kindness from parishioners, family and friends of Saint Ignatius of Antioch. The choirs, the congregation, the gifts, and the reception were truly inspiring. It has been my privilege to serve the people of this parish. We have been through good times and difficult times together. We have shared joy and sorrow and have been strengthened in those sacramental moments, which celebrate the life of a Christian. Thank you for your continued love and support over the years.
Peace be with you!
